Hotpot / Mooncake

Hotpot, Mooncake is a group of five acrylic paintings on canvas and three oil woodcut prints on a hand-painted wall pattern. The title refers to the Chinese hotpot, a communal dining experience where people gather around a simmering pot of soup and cook a variety of ingredients, and the mooncake, a Chinese pastry traditionally eaten and given as gifts during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Hotpot, Mooncake is inspired by the artist’s cultural heritage and a playful homage to communal feasts, celebratory sweets, and the tidal pull of the moon.

The public art commission is installed at the University of Oregon’s Unthank Dining and Residence Hall named in honor of the first Black graduate of the University's architecture program, DeNorval Unthank Jr.
